Web 2.0 Week 8

1. This was the week of 'mashups'. I viewed the time in Kolkata, India through Google maps using the platform called 'World Time Engine'. It displayed a map of India and told the exact time in the city I searched--Kolkata previously known as Calcutta.

2. I searched for 'privacy' in librarianblogs, it came up with a number of articles:

a. "Congress requests EPA libraries to open again"

b. Terrafly: more local info in one place than you can shake a stick at

I did not see the word 'privacy' in any of these librarianblogs, however.

I also looked at etBLAST, the search engine that recognizes text placed in its search box and maps it to other similar items in its database. Good way of getting relevent articles, finding out who else is writing in a specific subject area, etc.

Week 7 Web 2.0

This week we learned about Podcasts. I subscribed to an RSS feed from the Fairmont Public Library.

Week 5 Web 2.0

I had used Google Docs while editing our chapter newsletter and found that it did not upload properly from the Word document. The Word document contained our Chapter logo and also the page layout along with other images. When uploading the Word document to Google Docs, we lost the formating and layout of the page. So we had to abandon using Google docs as an online colaborating tool. I suppose it works well if you have a plain text document.

I also created a Google docs. power point presentation:

Web 2.0 Week 4

I've learned to use delicious. I've created an account and tagged a few links, including the PubMed rant that recently appeared. My delicious url is: http://del.icio.us/nickyhanny
This has been a very useful 4 weeks, I won't be able to do much work for the rest of the week as I am going to a 3 day seminar. So, I will have to wrap up my lessions today.

Thank you all for a great learning experience. You took some of the mystery out of web 2.0 for me. Nighat
